Community Mental Health Services

Community Mental Health (CMH) helps individuals manage and improve their mental health illness and well-being. The CMH team is made up of health care professionals including occupational therapists, social workers, registered nurses, psychologists and psychiatrists. They work together to access and recommend the most appropriate support.

Some of the more common illnesses that CMH treats are:

Centre for Emotions and Health

The Centre for Emotions and Health provides specialty consultation and psychotherapy services for people not responding to treatment in other parts of the medical and mental health systems. Using an assessment and treatment approach called Intensive Short-term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP), we help detect emotional factors that are interrupting treatment benefits and personal growth in people with anxiety, depression, and stress-related physical problems.

Bungalow Program

The Bungalow Program is for individuals who are under the jurisdiction of the Nova Scotia Criminal Code Review Board and are current inpatients at the East Coast Forensic Hospital. The program promotes independent living through skill building activities to prepare them for re-entering the community.

These individuals have full community access and are involved in school, work or volunteer activities in the community.

Borderline Personality Disorder Treatment Program (BPDTP)

The Borderline Personality Disorder Treatment Program (BPDTP) provides long-term (6 months or more), specialized treatment for adults with severe Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). Our program is based on Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and includes other therapies that have also shown evidence of being effective in treating BPD.
