Welcome to the AVH Medical Staff

The Annapolis Valley Health (AVH) Medical Staff organization consists of approximately 170 physicians; of which 137 have active/associate privileges within our facilities (67 family physicians, 66 specialists, 4 Dentists).

This dynamic team of physicians provides quality health care to a population of 84,000 over two counties and six sites. Many specialists also provide services through satellite clinics within our District and also in other Districts. We have three regional programs: orthopaedics, urology and vascular surgery, offering their expertise to Bridgewater (District 1) and to Yarmouth (District 2). We also provide some services to Windsor (District 9) and Digby (District 2)

There are 28 family practice offices across the District, three of which are associated with a Nurse Practitioner, within a Collaborative Practice Agreement (Annapolis, Middleton and Wolfville).

Physician recruitment efforts are ongoing to meet the needs of both physicians and patients.  Medical student and resident rotations are available, preceptored by our physicians, who offer an excellent opportunity to experience rural medicine at its best.  Department and individual practice opportunities are listed in the careers section of this website or click here.

"There were lots of lifestyle reasons to come - good schools, great climate, and excellent lifestyle.  On a professional level, AVH offers a friendly staff, a great lab, a more rounded practice and the opportunity to learn more about my field".  - Dr. Kelly Uren, Pathology Department

Medical Staff involvement is vital to the work of the District.  The Chiefs of Staff, Department Heads and Presidents of Medical Staff meet with administration on a monthly basis (DMAC).  Highlights of these meetings are available at all sites.  A number of other committees on a district, provincial and national level have AVH physician representation.

So take a moment and peruse the rest of our website; see for yourself why the Annapolis Valley is the place to grow your own practice!
