MISSION
The Eastern Kings Memorial Community Health Centre works in partnership with the communities of Eastern Kings County mobilizing skills and resources to promote
health and well-being and to build healthy communities. The Community Health Centre addresses needs through partnerships, advocacy and programs.
PURPOSE
The Eastern Kings Memorial Community Health Centre provides a wide range of primary health services to the East Kings County population, including health promotion and education programs, community development; diagnostic and treatment services. The staff of the Centre in partnership with numerous community groups and supported by many dedicated community volunteers are committed to building and supporting a healthy community with comprehensive, integrated, population health based programs and services.

EKM Advisory Council
The EKM Council provides advisory support to the management of the EKMCHC, and supports the Mission, Vision and Values of the Annapolis Valley District Health Authority. Membership includes representation from community health boards, seniors organizations, youth, EKM Foundation, health auxiliaries, and Acadia University. |

Eastern Kings Community Health Board
Established in 1996, the EKMCHB encourages public participation in health planning and services. Headed by a CHB Coordinator, the Board is made up of volunteers and examines the community’s needs and services and helps to solve identified deficiencies in health service delivery. |

The Enterostomal Therapist is a Registered Nurse who has advanced education and expertise in caring for a person with an ostomy or who has skin or wound problems.

Services A walk-in blood and specimen collection clinic is available. Patients are reminded that they must bring with them a physician’s order and their Health Card.

Mental
Health
At the EKMCHC, a psychologist is provided for adults on an individual basis for diagnostic and psychological assessment and, if warranted, individual therapy who present with a variety of problems such as anxiety, depression, eating disorders, or living with a chronic medical illness. |

| Nutrition Services -The Community Dietitian provides nutrition education and health promotion through workshops and group education sessions. As well, individual and family outpatient nutrition
counseling is provided. Physician referrals are not always required.

Palliative
Care Program
Palliative Care or Hospice-Palliative Care is a special kind of health care for individuals and families who are living with or dying from advanced illness or who are bereaved. Hospice Palliative Care strives to help patients and families address physical, psychological, spiritual, social and practical issues surrounding the end of life and deal with their associated expectations, needs, hopes and fears. With emphasis on the dignity of the person, it aims to relieve suffering and improve the quality of life.

Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy promotes healthy, independent living through the prevention and/or alleviation of movement dysfunctions. They take part in wellness workshops at a community level, as well as provide individual treatment. |

Public Health Services
The public heath team includes a Medical Officer of Health, dental hygienists, public health nurses, RN’s, LPN’s, nutritionists, community outreach workers, community home visitors, community home visitor coordinators, tobacco strategy coordinators, and chronic disease prevention coordinators. Staff members have skills in a wide range of areas including advocacy and policy development, group facilitation, planning and evaluation, community development, health promotion, population health, disease prevention and control and interpretation of health status information.
