Crisis Response Service Coordinator

POSITION SCOPE:

Reporting to the Manager, Community Support and Rehabilitation, Mental Health and Addiction Services, the Crisis Response Services (CRS).) Coordinator works as a member of a multi-disciplinary team to coordinate and provide intake, triage and crisis response services for inpatients and outpatients within mental health, addictions, acute care, and the hospital emergency departments. Working district wide with key stakeholders, the C.R.S. Coordinator plans, implements and evaluates services and activities for developing  coordinated and responsive services to individuals and their families across the lifespan who are affected by a broad range of disorders, illnesses and mental health/addiction related crisis.

 The C.R.S. Coordinator ensures that the principles and practices that guide AVH such as the mission, vision, values, expected behaviours, the leadership philosophy, organizational health, population health, ethics, safety, quality, partnerships and inter-professional collaboration are integrated within the services they provide and through the messages they deliver.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters Degree in a health-related field such as Nursing, Social Work or Psychology
  • Registration/licensure with a relevant body recognized in law in Nova Scotia, such as the Nova Scotia Association of Social Workers, College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia, or the Nova Scotia Board of Examiners in Psychology
  • Minimum 3 years clinical experience in mental health/addictions field, including experience with clients who present with psychosis, personality disorder, aggression, self-injury, dementia and symptoms of withdrawal and/or intoxication
  • Ability to work within Microsoft Office suite
  • Competence in assessment, intake, triage, risk assessment, intervention (individual, family, and group) and research
  • Specialized knowledge of crisis support, counseling and stabilization, acute and persistent mental illness, systems theory, ethics and standards
  • Working knowledge of the DSM IV-TR 
  • Working knowledge of psychotropic pharmacology
  • Knowledge of the physiological effects and risks of alcohol and drugs of abuse as well as risks associated with withdrawal from alcohol and drugs of abuse
  • Knowledge of legislation and responsibilities related to Involuntary Psychiatric Treatment, Child Welfare, and Adult Protection
  • Knowledge of and ability to link to community resources
  • Motivated with a strong customer service orientation building solid health care client/partner relationships
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize information, problem solve and utilize good judgment in decision making
  • Demonstrated planning, organizational and time management skills

 PREFERRED (considered an asset):

  • Post-graduate studies related to Mental Health or Addictions
  • Ability to communicate in both French & English
