Annapolis Valley, NS—Annapolis Valley Health has received full accreditation from Accreditation Canada with seven Accreditation Canada Leading Practices.

“The accreditation process is the foundation of our continuous quality improvement work in AVH. Accreditation is a valuable opportunity for us to measure ourselves against national standards and to display and reflect on our good work. Accreditation is also a detailed look towards areas where we can improve,” says Janet Knox, President and CEO of Annapolis Valley Health. “We value this process immensely.”

In October, AVH received an “Accreditation with Condition” report. Last week, AVH received word that all conditions set in October were successfully met and full accreditation was granted. The report designates AVH as Accredited from 2011-2014.

Accreditation surveyors confirmed that AVH is a leading organization in many respects. This is the first year the organization has received seven Accreditation Canada Leading Practices. Leading Practices are described by Accreditation Canada as “noteworthy examples of high-quality leadership and service delivery. These practices are worthy of recognition as organizations strive for excellence in their specific field, or are commendable for what they contribute to health care as a whole.”

Leading Practices were awarded for the following projects:

  • Histology Communication Tool
  • Middleton Adult Day Program
  • Seniors Rapid Assessment Service
  • Addiction Services Primary Care Pilot Project
  • Use of Technology in Interdisciplinary Mortality & Morbidity Review
  • Dial for Dinner Room Service Model
  • Implementing AVH Strategic Direction 1: Healthier people and communities through partnering and learning.

“I would like to thank our team who were inspiring through the accreditation process. Together, we will continue to advance our cause of healthy people, caring communities, valued healthcare teams and partners,” says Knox.
